# Connect Bitvavo to BitBrokerTrade via an API key

> Create an API key in Bitvavo and connect your account to BitBrokerTrade. Follow this step-by-step guide for a working connection.

To let BitBrokerTrade trade on your Bitvavo account, first create an API key in Bitvavo and then add it to BitBrokerTrade. This process has three parts: creating the API key, adding the exchange, and connecting a trader.

<Warning>
  After you create an API key, Bitvavo sends a confirmation email. **Click the confirmation link in your inbox first, before adding the exchange in BitBrokerTrade.** If you skip this step, the connection will fail.
</Warning>

</Note>

## Part 3: Connect a trader

Now that the exchange has been added, the next step is to connect a trader to your Bitvavo account. Follow the full step-by-step guide on the [Trader settings](/traders/trader-settings) page.
