To let BitBrokerTrade trade on your Bitvavo account, first create an API key in Bitvavo and then add it to BitBrokerTrade. This process has three parts: creating the API key, adding the exchange, and connecting a trader.
After you create an API key, Bitvavo sends a confirmation email. Click the confirmation link in your inbox first, before adding the exchange in BitBrokerTrade. If you skip this step, the connection will fail.

Part 1: Create an API key in Bitvavo

1

Open the API settings

Log in to bitvavo.com and click your account name in the top right. From the dropdown menu, choose “API”.
2

Add a new key

Click “Add new API key”. A form appears for your new key.
3

Set permissions

Give the key a recognizable name, for example “API BitBrokerTrade”. Then enable the toggles for “Read only” and “Trade digital assets” (slide them to the right). Leave the IP whitelist field empty.
4

Generate the key

Click “Generate API key”. Enter your Bitvavo password and your 2FA authentication code, and click Confirm.
5

Copy the keys

Click the copy icon next to the API key to copy it to your clipboard. Paste the key in a notepad. Do the same with the API secret key. Then click “I have saved the secret API secret”.
6

Confirm the confirmation email

Bitvavo now sends an email to your registered address. Open the email and click the confirmation link. Only then does the API key become active in Bitvavo.

Part 2: Add the exchange in BitBrokerTrade

1

Navigate to Exchanges

Log in to BitBrokerTrade. In the left column, click Settings, then Exchanges, and then Add exchange.
2

Select Bitvavo

Click the Bitvavo logo to choose Bitvavo as the exchange.
3

Fill in the details

In the Name field, enter Bitvavo. Then paste the previously copied API key and API secret into the matching fields.
4

Set a reserved amount (optional)

Do you want to keep part of your balance out of the trader? Enable “Reserved amount” and enter the desired amount in euros. This amount is never used for purchases.
5

Add the exchange

Check that you have already confirmed the Bitvavo email. Then click Add. The connection is now active.
Reserved amount, how does it work? Say you have €1,000 on Bitvavo and you set €250 as the reserved amount. The trader will then only work with €750. A balance of €250 will always remain untouched on your euro account.

Part 3: Connect a trader

Now that the exchange has been added, the next step is to connect a trader to your Bitvavo account. Follow the full step-by-step guide on the Trader settings page.
